Stefan Hessel joins the reuschlaw team!

As of 1 January 2020, Stefan Hessel will be joining reuschlaw Legal Consultants' Cybersecurity & Data Protection team, led by Dr. Carlo Piltz, as an Associate. Hessel, 28, has a degree in law and will be switching over from the Institute of Legal Informatics at Saarland University and the Helmholtz Center for Information Security (CISPA), where he worked as a research employee and is currently pursuing his doctorate, to join reuschlaw's Saarbrücken office. Stefan Hessel has also been pursuing a legal internship with the Higher Regional Court of Saarland since March 2018 and has extensive practical experience in the fields of data protection and IT security as the founder and managing director of a start-up which provides consulting services for courts, prosecutors and private businesses.

Because of his rare specialization, at the intersection of IT and law, Stefan Hessel is already a sought-after expert who made a name for himself particularly when his efforts led the Federal Network Agency to ban the internet-connected doll "My Friend Cayla" in 2017. Once he is admitted to the bar, he will be responsible for cybersecurity as part of Dr. Carlo Piltz's Cybersecurity & Data Protection Team, where he will further expand the cybersecurity group and serve as a member of Reuchlin's team of cybersecurity experts.

Philipp Reusch, reuschlaw's founding partner, said as follows: "I am very pleased that we were able to get Stefan Hessel on our team. With his extraordinary expertise, which perfectly combines the fields of law and IT, he is predestined to drive the further growth of our cybersecurity practice. This is all the more important as the digitization of products and services, which is advancing steadily, has created intersections with our various departments, including Regulatory Affairs & Marketing, Automotive and Health Care." Dr. Carlo Paltz added, "we are convinced that cybersecurity will be a key factor in future success, one which is often underestimated today. With Stefan Hessel on board, we will be in a position to make decisive progress in this strategically critical consulting area." Stefan Hessel commented as follows on his switch to reuschlaw: "I am very pleased that my expertise at the intersection of law and IT has further enhanced the profile of an innovation-driven firm like reuschlaw."

With the addition of Stefan Hessel, Reuchlin's Cybersecurity & Data Protection team now includes seven professionals.
