Testing in the light of functional safety

Publication by Andreas Reuter in the specialist journal PHi – issue 3/2017

When a product is created in the automobile industry, the focus is not only on planning and product and process development, but also – especially as regards licensing – on the prototype and its testing. Andreas Reuter looks at this subject in detail, dealing with questions on the juridical significance and aim of such testing and its integration in in-house quality management. He analyses whether or not a vehicle that is not comprehensively tested can actually fulfil the necessary expectations in terms of safety, and whether or not the requirements from the area of functional safety can be applied to other sectors too.
