WLTP making itself among suppliers

Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure

Since 1 September 2018 the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure) and a new exhaust emissions standard have been applicable in the EU. The aim of the WLTP is to lead to an improved depiction of actual consumption and pollutant and CO2 emissions. For this reason automobile manufacturers (OEMs) are having to convert many of their current models to petrol particulate filters and apply for a new type approval for each one.

Because of the new WLTP test cycle, some OEMs are lagging behind with their newly licensed vehicles. The suppliers are beginning to feel this more and more, but in many cases they have no room for manoeuvre in contractual terms. Daniel Wuhrmann comments on the current situation in the October issue of Automobil Industrie, makes recommendations and shows what scope there is for action.
