Prof. Dr. Dennis-Kenji Kip­ker beco­mes of coun­sel at reuschlaw

 Prof. Dr. Dennis-Kenji Kip­ker will be joi­ning reuschlaw’s Ber­lin office as of coun­sel effec­ti­ve immediately.

This renow­ned expert in IT secu­ri­ty law will sup­port the Digi­tal Busi­ness Unit (DBU), a bou­tique depart­ment which spe­cia­li­zes in pro­vi­ding advice in lia­bi­li­ty law for com­pa­nies in the indus­tri­al, high-tech and com­mer­cial sec­tors. Dr. Kipker’s focus is on ques­ti­ons of cyber­se­cu­ri­ty com­pli­ance. Hea­ded by Sala­ry Part­ner Ste­fan Hes­sel, reuschlaw’s DBU advi­ses com­pa­nies and public agen­ci­es in com­plex legal ques­ti­ons in the fields of data pro­tec­tion, cyber­se­cu­ri­ty and IT law.

Dennis-Kenji Kip­ker is a Pro­fes­sor in IT secu­ri­ty law at Bremen’s City Uni­ver­si­ty of Appli­ed Sci­en­ces and a visi­ting pro­fes­sor at the Riga Gra­dua­te School of Law in Lat­via, a pri­va­te insti­tu­ti­on estab­lished by the Sor­os Foun­da­ti­on, whe­re he con­ducts rese­arch in sub­jects at the inter­sec­tion of law and tech­no­lo­gy, in cyber­se­cu­ri­ty, in data pro­tec­tion and in digi­tal resi­li­ence in the con­text of glo­bal cri­ses, with a par­ti­cu­lar focus on Chi­ne­se IT law. He also works as a legal advi­sor for VDE and CERT@VDE in addi­ti­on to his work in the poli­cy area as a board mem­ber of the Euro­pean Aca­de­my for Free­dom of Infor­ma­ti­on and Data Pro­tec­tion (EAID) in Ber­lin, which con­cerns the future of IT regu­la­ti­on in Ger­ma­ny and the EU. In the­se func­tions, he works to deve­lop and imple­ment prag­ma­tic solu­ti­ons for digi­tal com­pli­ance and IT stra­tegy plan­ning, and in the cour­se of this work he is rou­ti­ne­ly asked to pro­vi­de advice and expert opi­ni­ons for various Ger­man and Euro­pean insti­tu­ti­ons, inclu­ding Ger­man Fede­ral Minis­tries and the Euro­pean Com­mis­si­on. As a publi­cist and aut­hor, Kip­ker regu­lar­ly wri­tes as a guest colum­nist for various media on the sub­jects of secu­ri­ty, digi­tal resi­li­ence, geo­po­li­ti­cal IT stra­tegy and digi­tal rights, inclu­ding a month­ly “data column” for the Weser-Kurier, a Bre­men news­pa­per, and “Per­spec­ti­ves,” an IT column appearing in the Ber­lin dai­ly Ber­li­ner Tages­spie­gel. As of 2022, Kip­ker heads the “Digi­tiza­ti­on” working group in the Pre­si­di­um of the Ger­man Infor­ma­tics Society.
